Analog
or Digital?
Before choosing a product group to meet your copier / printer needs, it
will help you to know more about the differences between traditional
analog copiers and the new digital imaging systems. An explanation of the
basic differences is below:
Some people are understandably wary of the new digital paradigm. We have
found that this is usually resolved by a better understanding of the
technology. This understanding will help you make a better choice for your
business. The differences between analog copiers and digital copiers are
really rather small, and are principally due to how the "input" is
provided (how the image gets to the copy). In analog copiers, copies are
produced by transferring the image optically from the original to the
copy.
With today's digital copiers the information is scanned optically from a
piece of paper. The information is then converted into a digital format,
processed, and used to produce the copies.
In a printer, the stream of data (similar to the digital image in a
digital copier) is processed in the printer to produce the printed page.
The new digital copier / printers are the successful result of combining
two very mature technologies: paper handling and data handling. The
benefits to users are (1) the reliability that has evolved during many
years of printer development, and (2) the speed due to the digital
technology. A stand-alone digital copier is typically priced between 10
and 20 percent more than an analog model with the same copying speed. If
connectivity is not an issue for you for the next 3 - 5 years, an analog
copier is still a viable option. Also, be aware that refurbished analog
copiers may be an economical solution to your "copying only" needs.
Now that you've read the explanation, you can use the pull-down menu in
